EU support helps to develop a skilled workforce

UAB "Inžineriniai tinklai" implemented the project for staff development “Education of professional competence of pipeline constructors-fitters and excavator operators - mechanics and their training inside the company” in accordance with the field of 1st activity "Support for training of industrial and business employees" of the II priority the “Development of Human Resources” under the General Programming Document (GPD) by means 2.2.: "Education of the competence and ability of the workforce to adapt to the changes"; and in conformity with means 2.2.: "Education of the competence and ability of the workforce to adapt to the changes" under General Programming Document (GPD) of Lithuania of the years 2004-2006.

The implementation of the project was carried out from March 2006 till May 2008. More than 30 employees of the company participated in the trainings.

The aim of the project is to raise professional qualification of newly recruited and present employees by the adaptation to the modern industrial developments in the construction industry. The goals of the project:

1. To teach the students how to use the machinery of new generation rationally;
2. To develop knowledge and skills to operate machinery in accordance with the requirements of operational instructions;
3. To teach to perform the simplest works of repair of machinery and its regulated maintenance;
4. To develop the ability to keep and maintain equipment properly;
5. To develop the ability to carry out the works in accordance with safety and environmental requirements;
6. To introduce to the students the technical requirements for pipeline installation and rules;
7. To increase the overall skill level of employees, to prepare skilled workers for the company;
8. Teach a labour culture.

The target group of the project had 5 months length theoretical and practical trainings in the workplace under the newly prepared training programmes for pipeline constructors - fitters (No. 262058223) and the excavator operators - mechanics (No. 265084046). Training took place in several groups in order to make a minimal effect on joint production activity of the company. After having finished the training programmes, the members of the target group acquired the qualification of pipeline constructors – fitters and excavator operators- mechanics and and were given the confirmative qualification certificates. 11 employees were granted the qualification. During the trainings, the participants were trained to install piping systems of different materials, rationally use the machinery of new generation, to operate it in accordance with the requirements of instructions, to carry out the simplest repair of machinery and its regulated maintenance under the technical requirements and standards. Also the members were provided with the ability to keep and maintain the equipment properly. Another important aspect, the high priority was given to whereat and which is required by the clients - "The labour culture and its observance."

This project contributed to the general and vocational education of the person. Having obtained a higher professional qualification which meets the profession needs of modern pipeline constructors – fitters and excavator operators – mechanics, the person has the opportunity to feel more firmly in the Lithuanian labor market and can deepen his professional skills at the same time. Acquisition of appropriate professional qualification has improved the employment skills of worker and opportunities for the employment in the field of construction.

The results of the project had not only had direct effects, i.e. employees of the company and newly employed people acquired the qualification in the field of pipeline laying, control of machinery as well as of services, but they also have had indirect effects - qualified employees received higher wages, and, thereby, their quality of life increased in general, as well as people feel more confident and became in great demand in other factories, where their qualification is relevant.
